Its day 3 in our festive flashback and look who made a big splash in the River Thames in 2014 to launch Totally Thames!
Renowned Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman created an extraordinary, 21-metre-long sculpture HippopoThames for his first UK commission. Known for larger than life sculptures, which often originate from everyday objects, the design was inspired by the fascinating prehistory of the River Thames, and the hippos that used to inhabit it.
HippopoThames sat on the River Thames at Nine Elms for the month of September semi-immersed in the river, rising and falling with the tide. The art sculpture marked the launch of Totally Thames, London’s all new annual celebration of the river.
