Chapeau Magique and La Galette 2011

1pm - 6pm

The Bandstand in Gabriel's Wharf

Huge sheets of brown wrapping paper are used for the large-scale production of origami wizard hats, in a magical playground environment underneath an ever-unfurling 7km roll of paper. Children and adults too are invited to roll and fold and squeeze and scrunch their very own paper hat.

I thought this event was great fun. We were folding our paper lots! It is a bit challenging but the end result was amazing. The leader/instructor really helped and i ended up with a great flowerpot hat! I would really recommend this activity for both children and adults.

This has been the funniest and most exciting event of the Festival, both my son and myself enjoyed it tremendously.  Hand craft gives one so much pleasure and a huge sense of satisfaction for the final creation of a hat.
The French gentleman who led the whole exercise was funny, helpful, patient, kind and generous with his explanations and with the wide range of hat designs presented to us. This event gives a huge boost of confidence and achievement to everyone, young and old aspiring “designers”.
My son and I wore the hats with great pride and nearly everyone asked us how could they have a similar hat.
I would like to see this event return to the Festival every year, as we can do with more hats and fun.
Thank you for bringing this event to the Thames festival. Can we find it anywhere else in London throughout the year?
